The Swine Core is a unique resource of IUSM and Purdue, and serves as a Regional/National Shared Resource Core of the IDRC, having already provided service as a de facto facility without subsidization to over 130 investigators within and outside of IUSM/Purdue. This Core utilizes a novel breeding colony of Ossabaw swine with metabolic syndrome and long-term complications, most notably cardiovascular disease. The Core provides swine maintenance (glucose tolerance tests, body composition, glucose clamp studies, and imaging studies), characterization of cardiovascular disease (intravascular ultrasound, blood flow velocity, microvascular studies), and tissues (both banked and fresh) for analysis ex vivo. Banked tissues are available mainly for the cost of shipping.Live pigs are available and pricing is mainly dependent on the age of the pig. Please see the above website and contact Dr. Alloosh for additional questions on pricing.
Please first carefully design your study, do your own cost estimate, thoroughly consider the final cost, and whether you will have sufficient financial resources. We can then provide a detailed cost estimate that includes diet treatment, shipping costs, and additional services.
